Automatic Shift Installation Instructions

Tools Needed

  1. Drill and 5/16” and 1/8” or smaller bits
  2. Phillips Screwdriver
  3. Sharp knife
  4. Slip joint (hose) pliers

This mod will take about 2 to 3 hours depending on your level of experience. I rate this one easy. A novice can do this with no trouble.

Installation

  1. Take the cup holder liners out of the console. Remove the Phillips head screw in the holder closest to the seat. Gently pry up on the console until it snaps up and out of place. Turn the console sideways as you pull up on it to get it over the shift lever.

  1. This would be a great time to paint or wash this console to get all of the crud off of it.
  2. Find the location where you want to mount your lights. Remember, there has to be enough clearance on the inside of the console to allow the LED and the wires to poke through at least 1/4 of an inch.
  3. Use your 1/16 drill bit and drill a "pilot hole". If you use your 5/16 bit first, you risk having the bit wandering around the plastic before it gets a bite. The result would be horrible scars on the console!

  1. Now, drill your 5/16 holes using your pilot holes to guide you.

  1. With the knife , shave off the burrs of plastic and make sure you have a clean hole. Otherwise, the LED snap-in may not seat correctly.

  1. Open and unroll the wire with the LEDS on the end. Stick one of them through each hole and then carefully press the 5/16 snap-in connectors over the end of the LEDS. Press the snap-in connectors into the holes you drilled earlier. See Fig 6.7.8 and 9

  1. Flip it over and carefully tie your wires down to the console with the double-sided stick tie downs and the wire ties, making sure you don't have any running near moving parts. Snip off the excess wire tie so it doesn't make vibration noises!

  1. After you run the wires inside the console, locate the power harness in your kit. This is the wire with the red and green connectors on one end and the 10 pin connector with the white heat shrink on it. Also get the two red T-Tap connectors as shown in Fig. 10
  2. Find the light bulb socket on the bottom of your shifter. Referring to Fig. 10 use the slip joint pliers to crimp a T connector to the gray wire. Repeat on the black wire.
  3. Now plug the red male (positive) connector labled Gray into the T-Tap on the GRAY wire Plug the green male (negative) connector labled Black into the T-Tap on the BLACK wire.

  1. Plug the LED harness into the power harness. Note: The 2 pin connector from the LEDS has one wire with red heat shrink on it. Refer to Fig. 11 and make sure to plug the LED in so that the red heat shrink is on the same side as the + on the power connector. If the + on the connector has rubbed off it's the side with the 'bump' on it. You can plug the two pin connector into any of the 5 sets of holes. There are 5 sets so you can add other kits to the same power harness.

  1. Test the LEDS!  Turn on the park lights and put the dimmer on full bright (control rotated all the way ‘up’.) The LEDS should be full bright.  By rotating the control ‘down’ they will dim as the other dash lights dim.  If they don’t work immediately turn off the park lights.  Reverse the connections in step 11 and try it again.  If it still doesn’t work see the Trouble Shooting section.
  2. Getting it all buttoned up: Snap the console back in place and replace the screw in the bottom of the cup holder closest to the seat. Snap in the cup holder liners and you are done! Enjoy!
